As most of you should know, Barley is on a staycation with us for a week and the week is coming to an end! Throughout her stay I learnt alot about her mischievous side and had a good laugh at her funny antics! It’s like having total freedom for her as she is free to roam except for the occasional imprisonment to teach her a lesson! It is with such freedom that she reveals her true self! She jumps on sofa and coffee table whenever I got home and her feeling really excited! She goes to my room and jumps right onto my bed to wake me up just so she can go for her daily morning walk. She better learns to appreciate her staycation because after this, she is going to be disciplined and live in a controlled environment back at his place.

It is during her one week stay that I realized my grandma loves for dogs! She once had a couple back in the kampong days but never really had one every since they gave away Blackie (I only remember she is black because my mama told me so) after I started crawling around eating Blackie’s hair. I feel happy when I see her cuddle and talk to Barley! She seems so jovial and I guess she must have felt really lonely when no one else except my maid is home with her.

Sigh. I know she is going to miss Barley after this staycation. I will too!

During her staycation, Barley decides to come on heat (aka dog menstruation), it’s a little messy but everyone was very tolerating especially when she is in a family with five women and two men. HAH.

Barley’s staycation turned my sister’s life into a boot camp. She self-imprisoned herself in her glass room while Barley looks at her with curiosity every single day. Just a few hours ago, my sis had a bad encounter with Barley. HAH. Barley was eager to greet her when she got home and started charging towards her. That was a bad move! It was followed by screams and falls with Barley running out of the house. She felt something amiss and started charging back towards our place and towards my sister (again). This led to more screams and timid Barley was frightened to death! She was then being thrown into prison as a punishment. HAH.

I will miss Barley!

He loves Japanese cuisine. I love Japanese cuisine. He read Master Chef Murata’s featured article about his book “Japanese Home Cooking” and am tempted to buy it. We love the fact that his recipe is fuss free, using readily available ingredients and looks yummy with great reviews!

“Yoshihiro Murata, one of the most accomplished and respected figures in Japan’s culinary world, has combined his expertise and artistry with his enthusiasm for teaching Japanese cooking to create this exciting new book. Japanese Home Cooking with Master Chef Murata presents over sixty healthy home recipes, from classic to modern, ranging from popular restaurant offerings like yakitori, tempura, and shabu shabu to typical home dishes like onigiri (rice balls), miso soup, and tonkatsu fried pork cutlets. “

All of the dishes can be made using Western kitchen tools and ordinary ingredients readily available from the supermarket; if a more exotic ingredient is called for, Murata suggests alternatives. And, while he strives to retain the authenticity of a recipe, he also recommends ways for the Western chef to adapt it. For example, in a number of the recipes, he suggests using high-quality store-bought chicken broth, which is also used in Japan, instead of traditional Japanese dashi stock.”

- Amazon.com

He made me buy it and I made him promise me to whip up the dishes we both love!

With $30 dollars I get to eat up to 60 Japanese home cook dishes! It’s a great deal! Hee.

The last time we visited Restaurant Chako was in Feb 2009. More than a year later, we visited it again. It was just as good and as expected the wait was terribly long (at least 45 mins to an hour) but well worth it. You can view my review here back in 2009, the points are still valid other than their new improved menu which comes with English translation.
Barley is in the house! My house! She is on a staycation! She is here to stay for a week! One entire week! Yippee! Oh, but my sister is suffering from some anxiety attack. I hope she will get through this week stronger and overcome her dog-fearing self! Haha.

She is really mischievous! I sat on the sofa and she jumped right up! I had to bring her down thrice and scare her with a “newspaper-rod” to make her stay grounded (literally). Oh, can anyone recommend something to whiten Barley? She is turning brown! GASP.
