Last Sunday we had a date night Sunday at the Singapore Art Festival 2012 and we watched the most precious and captivating free performance ever! Flux caught the hearts of many audiences. Flux,a theatrical performance by French group Theatre du Centaure, tells the story of a mythical creature, the centaure – a half human, half horse creature – which lives among us. The way the performer and the horse dance in sync is so magical that it made us felt like we were in a Disney movie! Love that it was originally presented at the man-made ranch and later, when the mystical creature reappears at the river, the performance is moved to the floating stage.

Thereafter, we went to listen to some lovely music performance by our local acoustic duo Kim + Sarah. I like Sarah’s voice!

In the past during our dating days, Jason and I often hangout at Esplanade listening to free music performance and while listening to Kim + Sarah, they reminded us of that fuzzy feeling we had back in those days. It’s hard to perform in front of live audience and it’s even harder to sing it well and I’m glad they did both just right. Haha. Do head over to Singapore Arts Festival this weekend! Date night doesn’t have to be expensive! Some great things come free too! Heh.

I was invited to a cooking demonstration event by Chef Tetsuya. He is friendly yet professional and we got to sample some of his dishes and picked up a few tips to make our own yummy food at home. He prepared sauces for fresh oysters, whipped up baked ocean trout, served ocean trout sashimi, and cooked the best spanner crab with soft boiled eggs and caviar tasted till date. I wish I can afford his 10-course degustation menu at MBS. Boo.

The second run of this sold-out hit of the Man Singapore Theatre Festival 2011 is equally popular with full house audience on a weekday! The essence of this play is formed by the responses of the interviews playwright Alfian Sa’at collected in the months leading up to the 2011 GE. With these interviews where some are optimistic, some riotously frank, some fearful, some painfully honest – it captured the emotions on ground before/during/after the 2011 GE.

I had a great laugh but after the laugh, I reflected on some of the topics discussed and left with a heavy heart.

// That’s all for now. I shall see my mood for the other posts! Hah.

Last week was an art / cultural explosion week for me! I went to a musical, a play, a social painting session and a piano ensemble. It was an enjoyable yet tiring week! I was supposed to spend 2 of these activities with him but his boss decided to whisk him off to Seattle for a meeting instead. So too bad for him while I had crazy nights with various groups of people!

Girls Night Musical, Girl Talk (a sold out off-Broadway musical) is a wild night of fun, dance and laughter (for people wishes to relax, dance and laugh out loud!). I love that despite having differing personalities, the three girls remain as close friends after their “last radio show”, and it is kind of like us SSSS girls!

Barbara – a tough lady who drinks like a man and shops at Walmart, Janice – the little miss perfect (or so we think), a workaholic and an uptight lady who owns expensive shoes and lastly the crowd favourite (among the girls) Dr Laura (who managed to scare off a few guys in the audience) – an energetic, crazy and sexually uninhibited lady who is incredibly flexible.

They spoke candidly on all women related topics; sex, menopause, childbirth, shopping, marriage, divorce, affairs, men and all things true in this crumbling world. Some topics are sad but true and girls should just laugh out loud with their girlies to get through the tough times.

Thank you SQ for the tickets! I’m glad it was an all girls night because I cannot imagine the boys sitting through this without their faces all red with embarrassment. HAHA.

On a side note, I love Jubilee hall for its charm and old world look.

I hope the guys are not all stressed up before Valentine’s day because when I logged in Facebook today, almost every attached/married women are putting up all the pictures of their “surprised” grandest, largest, most expensive bouquets which their love ones gave them or sent it to their office! To my horror, one of them even took a picture of all her colleagues’ flowers and commented that hers is the biggest and most beautiful! Is this a day for bouquet comparing competition?

Don’t be mistaken, I am not a Grinch of Valentine’s Day, I appreciate that today is a day to remind us on our love ones (husband, friends, families, dogs etc) but I don’t see the value in spending $100 and $200 dollars for a bunch of flowers when they usually cost half the price on other days. I love flowers and I do appreciate flowers but spending $100 – $200 dollars on a bouquet? I love money more! Haha.

You can call me an unromantic, but I believe romantic acts need not be expensive, it just has got to be creative or heart warming! I personally feel that it is more meaningful to give flowers on special days like Wedding Anniversary or Birthday (HINT HINT). Haha. But surely not on an over-hyped Valentine’s day? I bet after 6pm today, all the pictures of food at expensive restaurants serving up “V-Day special set meal” will come flooding through the FB walls! Haha.

So to share what we did to commemorate Valentine’s day, here’s what happened. Initially he placed a reservation at an expensive French restaurant, but thinking that it is our first Valentine’s day as a married couple, we will do something special (and to save some bucks after bursting our banks on honeymoon and wedding).

We decided to celebrate on Sunday evening and were all dressed up for our dinner which was held at Parc Lumiere’s private alfresco dining space. Haha. Our balcony!

All dressed up in suit! I can finally use the little vase I lugged home from Korea for our candle light dinner. Haha.

We danced to our church wedding compilations, ate this awesome rib-eye steak which was grilled to perfection with home-made teriyaki sauce (no less), drank a good red, and ate this amazing tiramisu made by yours truly (Which I will share the recipe in the next post)! The best part about dining at your own balcony? You don’t have to wait at the taxi stand in your heels with half of our population in town, or get caught up in a jam on your way home, or drag your tired feet back after dinner or be caught in a resturant with cheesy love songs (which happened to us one year), or listen to other patron’s talking about random stuffs (which also happened to us one year when the restaurant increased their seats for this occasion)! Instead, we made out immediately after dinner! Haha. Isn’t it awesome! We both agreed that this was the best Valentine’s day celebration ever!

//I’m assuming my readers are all of age here. Heh.

This beef was cooked to perfection. Medium rare, tender, tasty and all so awesome. I tried taking a picture using flash. but it freaking looks like a piece of chicken. Heh.

Flash kills it all.

My amazing Tiramisu!

So guys, you don’t have to fret on what flowers to buy, which restaurant to go, what present to give, it is the little things you do that touches your girl’s heart (excluding materialistic girls)! And you know what? People at Google agree with me too! Have you seen their mini-clip above their search bar? I took some screen shots in case some of you missed it!

This boy tried giving the girl every cliche Valentine’s day present possible but the girl is unmoved.

The boy gave up and ended up joining her in rope skipping and immediately the girl stopped and gave him a hug. (Moral of story, do what the girl’s enjoy doing! )

So spread your love around, to your friends, family, pets, alien friends and what not! Have fun!

As for today, we decided to eat in to avoid the crowd with some home cook food and have an in-house mini movie night! Haha. Yes, maybe we are behaving like an old couple already.

Anyway, Happy Valentine’s Day!

Cesar Millan is coming to town! It is confirmed that he will be in Singapore in JUNE! OMG OMG! I am hyperventilating! There is a cure for Barley! Cesar please come and save Barley!

Yes, she is too cute. But she has a couple of flaws too! One, she hates other dogs! Manly, cheery, affectionate, small, big, skinny, fat, short hair, long hair, curly hair, male or female, she hates them all. She is a total bitch and is socially awkward. HAHA. Two, she gets overly excited when she sees us! She stops barking only if we carry her for close to 10 seconds. Any shorter she will go crazy chasing after her own tail! So Cesar, please visit Singapore and come see Barley!

Another good news, NatGeo is having a Free Pet Shop Event at East Coast Park next weekend! There are many dogs up for adoption! Even though most of them are strays there are many with that heart melting smile! If you need a companion, pop by the event and bring a friend home!

Anyone out there seen this musical in NYC? It is from the original cast from its sold-out off-Broadway shows in New York – Tina Jensen (as Barbara), Priscilla Fernandez (as Dr. Laura) and the director Sonya Carter who will double up as Janice. It looks like something that we will enjoy together with a group of girls! SSS, want to go watch this? I love musical. Any day! Haha.

“ Follow three radio DJs – eccentric Barbara, “Little Miss Perfect” Janice and rambunctious sexpert Laura – through topics close to the hearts of women in this lively and fun musical play.

The plot is set in the final broadcast of the radio show, Girl Talk, after 10 years, the three ladies are set to end things with a bang. Expect lots of fireworks as three very distinct personalities come together, bring different aspects of their lives and experiences on food, men, babies and sex of course!

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if you are young or old, single or married, divorced or widowed. Because girls will always be girls. So let loose and get ready for a smoking good time at Girl Talk! “

He brought me to watch Wicked on Christmas Day and it was wickedly awesome! I love musical and it is far better than Mama Mia (NYC) and Lion King (Singapore)! Love the set! It was magical and the transformation between scenes kept my neck stretched throughout the show! I was mesmerized by the costumes, set, plot and voices! Even though their voices are not as powerful as their counterparts seen in Mama Mia in NYC, it is still good!
