We picked Hwee Studios as our wedding videographer and selected his 6 hrs videography package! We only choose to film the most beautiful and critical parts – gate crashing and church wedding – for our 6 hrs!

Jason & Serene Wedding Express

Realized the video cannot be shown in iPhone so here is the link to Youtube.

Here are our criteria for picking our wedding videographer

  • Limited budget so it cannot exceed $1500 (which was a fairly reasonable budget)
  • Nothing cheesy as I have seen wedding videos which focus on the bridal car’s car plate number and even added in the 4D form for special effects. OMG.
  • Videographer who doesn’t make us shout “HUAT” or do overly “Auspicious” actions. It’s a wedding not chinese new year!
  • Friendly videographer who doesn’t give black face or demand people to stand in a certain way (you will be surprised! I met such videographer before!)
  • Basically someone who takes a backdrop role – non intrusive and show the event as it is sincerely
  • Someone who is talented and is able to make us go awww with his video

With these criteria, we found Hwee Studios, even though some of the forum remarks indicated that he is late in giving his couple’s the full 6 hrs DVD at the end of the wedding, dragging for months, we are keeping our fingers crossed. Ben, the videographer is relatively friendly and the past work we saw was good and for some we did go awww. So we took a leap of faith.

It turned out well and even though we have not received our full 6 hrs DVD, we are still keeping our fingers crossed! Haha.

My sister tagged me on this picture right after we got married but I only managed to update it today! Haha!

J & S

One constraint we had with Armenian church is that they do not have any screen or projector! It is a monument site and everything is basic. So a program sheet is essential for our guests! Another constraint of Armenian church is that, they do not have any air conditioning system with only ceiling fans in a hot Saturday afternoon, we thought a program fan will come in handy! We got Tim (Sue Ann’s half) to assist in taking some pictures of our guests at our photobooth but he also took some wonderful pictures of us throughout the event! So lucky you, here are some quick preview of our church wedding! After we received the pictures from One Eye Click, I’ll break them up into different posts into the details of this church planning in later posts!

One key reason why this wedding is so beautiful – the perfect weather granted by God! It was a little rainy the week before and we were just thankful for the great weather!

J & S
This church wedding is like how I always wanted! We wanted a garden wedding but ended up at this beautiful church – Armenian church @ Hill Street with a beautiful garden.

Introducing my beloved bridesmaids for my wedding, each of them is different and I’m hoping they will enjoy themselves too! Hi girls, all the pictures are from your  profile pictures in FB so don’t kill me if you don’t like it! I need to find pictures which you are alone in it!

Ok, now starting from my oldest friend…

Yirene

yirene
She is both my sister and childhood friend. Probably my longest friend, I know her starting from 1989. HAH. We quarreled, we fought (verbally and physically, she broke my teeth when we were little), we hugged, we cried, in good times and bad, she is always there. Especially when Jason and I are going through tough patch, she is the one I want to break down and cry and seek her advice or comfort! I may have taken her for granted at times, but I’m really glad and very blessed to have such an awesome sister, who is not just pretty but so cool! She is the pillar of the family, holding our dysfunctional family together. Everyone loves her not just because she is the smarter (debatable) and prettier (debatable) sister, but also because she is so lovable, kind, patience and at the same time quirky yet cool! I love you sister! I’ll miss your nonsense!

Yvonne

yvonne
I know her since Primary school and she was in Chinese dance and in the same class as me! We went to the same secondary school and were both in St John! A down to earth and cheerful girl, we had lots of fun time first at the various dancing performance then together in secondary school! I remembered her mum helping us do our Chinese dance makeup and us doing the random drills and going for camps in secondary school!

Alphania

alphania

I know her in secondary school and she was in Yvonne’s class! She is probably Yvonne’s best friend in her class and we were all in St John! Naturally we hang out together with a few others and had become close friends since then. We went on Genting trip, Redang trip and even climb a mountain (they insist it is a zero level hill) and I almost died up there in the drizzling rain! I think we should plan another trip together soon, somewhere, just to hang out and catch up on time!

Lydia

lydia
She is my poly friends since Year 1 whom I still remain in contact. Lydia and I are like Chalk and Butter – a world of difference. She was the rebellious ones (the fun one too!) and I was the studious one. We complement each other or almost outkill each other! HAHA. Many hours spent mugging together in the library, while I stay focus and nag at her to focus and stop going for her various breaks in between. HAHA. I remembered our stay over at her place and thought then she was definitely a keeper! Me and my bad English but strong analytical and organization skills – or so I claimed, teamed with her impeccable writing and communication skills, we were unbeatable!

Sharon (Lau Eng Ying)

sharon

I met her in my third year and she was stuck with the outcast me in the class. We went through thick and thin, biting the bullets that come with every class presentation. Worked through the night and just before our graduation, she thought she can finally get rid of me and my competitive streak, our marketing research lecturer decided to put us together in a team with two others to join a marketing competition. We slaved through the days and nights during the holidays and she stood by the team even though one team member decides that this competition is not for her. We eventually won as the champion team in the competition beating other tertiary schools including NUS and NTU. In my valedictorian speech, she insists that I gave her credits by mentioning her name. No, neither Sharon nor Sharon Lau is enough. It must be Sharon Lau Eng Ying. HAHA.

Sue Ann

sue ann

Ok, among the SSSS girls, I know Sue Ann first, we worked in some AIDS competition (which she was forced into to work with us) and was in the same final year project too! She is this sweet and ever smiling girl! Her sweet loving nature gained her thousands of Facebook friends (I may have exaggerated this a little!) but yes, because of her massive networks in business school; she hosted a graduation BBQ party at her place! While the rest of the guests ate, drank, gambled and be merry, SSSS came together and started talking about random topics at her living room. Thereafter, we decided that we totally hit it off, and decided that we should do this again and boy oh boy, we are inseparable! We emailed and smsed each other all day long (before whatsapp) and gosh, it has been two years! Can you believe it?

Siqi

sq

She is the hottest among the SSSS girls and was once the Singtel Grid girl contestant! She is the career woman and extremely resourceful and capable! She is probably one of the few who often knocks some sense in our group and come out with practical actions / advice! She is definitely the girl with both the looks and the brain! Haha. She is also a loyal friend who is ever so willing to assist any of us in times of need! I love that she is a darling to her family and also to us! I’m just hoping that HK will not snatch her away from us! MUHAHAH!

Chengwei

cw

Ever generous Chengwei is part of SSSS group too! Her online nickname is Squareberry! HAHA. She is the most musically talented among our SSSS and the tallest too! She is also my benefactor for this blog together with her ever accommodating Lennel! Even though we were both in NUS business school and both in marketing major, we never really had a chance to know each other! We probably bitched together online because of our marketing thesis and complained together online why two top students have not land a job immediately after graduation! We became even closer after the other two SSSS girls come together and we became the best bitching buddies talking about life, work, love and everything else under the sun!

// This is not intended to be an advertorial, but I guess, to hit my October quota before I fly off to Italy for my honeymoon!

I have the sweetest friends on Earth and sometimes I feel like I don’t deserve such awesome friends!

For one, I have this amazing friend, Chengwei, who took time to create a secret parcel filled with this century old wedding custom inspired by her latest favorite book and movie and mail it to me as a surprise! Not only that, she wrote a post at her blog dedicated to me! Awwww!!! Most of what is here is from her blog because she writes so well!

A parcel filled with…

“Something old, something new,
Something borrowed, something blue,
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.”

Inside the parcels ,each item is supposed to bring good luck to me and a happy marriage!

photo

Something Old: A link of continuity to the bride’s past. It also represents the life being left behind to start a new beginning, but not forgetting where she has been and her family values.

She gave me a book which she bought them second hand!

Something New: Optimism and hope for the future. It conveys the bride’s wish to creating a union that will endure the test of time.

She gave me a necklace and handcream which are new! Haha.

Something Borrowed: Borrowing an item from a happily married woman to borrow her luck. It also symbolizes the love and adoration she has for the person she borrowed the item from, and that the bride can count on her family and friends for love and support.

She lend me another book which she loves!

Something Blue: A symbol of love, modesty, fidelity, luck, purity, loyalty.

The necklace she gave me is blue!

A Lucky Sixpence in her Shoe: A representation of the bride’s wealth and financial security. For optimal results, the sixpence should be worn in the left shoe.

I love this little trinklet best! According to Cheng wei, sixpence is almost equivalent to six pennies, six British cents, which is almost 20 Singapore cents! HAHA.

Thank you babe, for creating a parcel which is somethingforme, somethingIcansmileabout and all for somethingaboutrenes!

And yes, I will try to have an enjoyable wedding day (attempting to ignore all the perfectionist bride in me) and I will not forget my beloved SSSS. You girls are so special to me and I agree, somethingsdon’tchange!

OMG. There are so many things to handover at work and so many little things to do. I just I want to pack my bag and fly to Italy NOW. Oh I can’t wait.

We just had our Guo Da Li (Proposal & Betrothal) last Friday, and it was a busy day filled with Chinese Customs and random stuffs.

*Fun Facts*

“In Chinese Culture, a marriage is considered the joining of two families.  Thus the parents of the bride’s and groom’s get involved in their wedding planning from very early on.  Two families pick an auspicious date as the Betrothal Day.  This is a formal meeting between the parents of the perspective bride and groom. The groom’s family presents various proposal gifts that represents fertility and prosperity in Chinese culture, which is also known as “Grand Gift” or “Guo Da Li”.  All gifts should come in even numbers, meaning “good things double” in Chinese culture.  Thus, the two are considered officially engaged.”

We first started off with a huge basket of goodies delivered from the groom-to-be (GTB)’s to the bride-to-be’s (BTB) home.

In the baskets there were lots of cash in various red packets for different reasons, cans of pork leg,  oranges, random traditional sweet treats and two VSOP liqueurs.

Picture 053

In return for the liqueurs, the GTB got two bottles of orange cordial. HAH.

In return for the random traditional sweet treats, the GTB got half of each bag.

I also received “Si Dian Jin”, 4 pieces of gold from his mum, an expensive gift given the current gold price.

*Fun Facts*

“The bride’s family then prepares dowry and give a list of the dowries to the groom’s family.  Dowry is mostly composed of daily necessities for the new home, such as bedding, linen and dining set, etc.  In the old Chinese culture, girls start learning needle work at young age, and prepare plenty of shoes, socks, table cloth etc, as part of her dowry.  This is also an opportunity for the bride’s family to display their love for their daughter as well as their wealth.”

That’s my dad and I’m only worth these cans of pig leg? HAHA.

Picture 056

He also delivered 30 boxes of cakes for my relatives. There are many other random things like, Dragon & Phoenix candles, teapot set and lamps.

*Fun Facts*

After the betrothal  meeting, both families will make wedding announcement to their relatives and friends by sending out  “Double Happiness Cakes” along with wedding invitations.  This is the Chinese style wedding cakes also known as “Dragon & Phoenix Cakes”.  These are baked cake with dragon and phoenix imprint on the surface.  Some styles have fillings made of lotus seed paste, red bean paste or green bean paste.

The wedding cakes are usually presented to the bride’s family by the groom’s family as part of the proposal gift. Bride’s family will then present some of the cakes to worship their ancestors and send the rest of cakes to friends and relatives along with wedding invitations. Quantity of cakes to be sent depends on seniority of guest or relationship with the family.  Nowadays, the wedding cakes are usually served to the guests at the wedding instead of the western style wedding cakes.

This is our first draft of itinerary of Italy. We decided to focus more on Venice, Florence and Rome and using Florence as a mid point to visit neighbouring attractions too! Any idea how do we get from Florence to Cinque Terre / Chianti etc? Any cool recommendations?

I just did my trial makeup last Sunday and I can safely say that I still look like me. Or do I?
Haha
