Right after our church wedding ceremony, we had a toss the bouquet session! Some of the single ladies were gamed for it and we had a fun time! Guess what? CW caught the bouquet and yes, she is the next bridesmaid getting married after our wedding! Haha.

For Chinese wedding customs, there is usually a young boy (who is a junior of the bride) opening the door for the groom before gatecrashing. My little brother played this role. During the door opening, he demanded for a bigger red packet and that intimidated the boys a little as they thought the game is ON the moment they arrive. HAHA.

Even though I have a Otaku brother, I’m thankful for his presence and I miss his random comments!. Haha. Gosh. I miss staying at my parent’s place with my sister and the rest!

The letter “J” and “S” you saw here was DIY by us both with a lot of help from some of our bridesmaids and their other halves!

Materials You Need

  • 2 Huge TV Carton Box (We used boxes that came with our 40 inches TV and my in-law’s 42 inches TV)
  • A whole lot of starch (Corn flour and boiling water, recall how you did it back in primary school!)
  • A whole pile of newspaper
  • Spray paint or colour paper (more environment friendly method)
  • A whole lot of patience

First, we drew the TV Carton Box into the letters we wanted. I found a font which is easy  to draw and draft it up there. Then, we cut it with a pen knife. Imagine a 3D pop up letter. This is when your geometry class comes in handy.

We then reused those styrofoam pieces that came with the TV (those that protects the TV) and placed it at an angle where it held all the walls together. If you don’t have enough of those styrofoam, try stuffing them with newspaper. As long as the walls don’t collapse it is fine.

We then put some weight at the bottom of the letters using old magazines which we rolled them up and dumped it at the bottom.

The dreadful process will start here – paper marche. Stick layers and layers of newspaper over and over and over each layer. We were so sick of it we almost gave up.

Go reward yourself with a cup of tea and a few hours of TV while it is trying to air dry itself. Then,  spray paint it or cover it in small pieces of color paper which you picked. I’m not sure how many layers you need to spray to cover the newspaper printings but we only did it once and it looks really dreadful.

Conclusion: The whole surface was rough and popping up! We can even see the newspaper printing! Looking back, I’m not sure if I will do it again. I think we overdid the DIY part for our wedding but it turned out to be a nice prop for photo (from really far away!). I don’t know what made me jump into it but it was crazy. The worst thing? We couldn’t take any pictures up close because it was horrid. HAH.

We took some group pictures at The Armenian Church with our bridesmaids and groomsmen and I must say, the girls are hot and the guys are funny! Haha. And I have pictures to prove it! On a side note, I love Armenian Church and the greenery and yard in front of the church!

There are two preparations involved before gate crashing, (1) myself and (2) the torture!

While I was dolling up myself pretty in my room (which my sister swiftly converted into hers within weeks after I officially moved my stuffs over), the eight bridesmaids are busying themselves in the kitchen!

I’m glad my sister converted my room to her room that quickly because the colour she picked for her walls blends into my theme! Yay for that! Also, she made it looks much better than before! A save for the picture perfect moment!

This picture captured two things I love! The ring and the wedding dress!

And I’m all doll up and ready to meet the groom! While I was almost being bored to death waiting in the room, the girls had so much fun with the food!

I went shoe hunting with my sister before our wedding and I’m glad I did! She has a lot more patience than guys when it comes to shopping! Haha. I can hear you guys going “Yes!” in unison!

I got my wedding shoe at Pazzion and I had some simple guidelines for picking my shoe! I know you must be thinking Serene has guidelines for every decision she makes. Haha. I’m sure everyone has a mental note in making decisions just that it is rarely spelt out.

Guidelines for Picking Wedding Shoe

  • Comfortable: You need to stand in them for hours! This pair of heels is not as comfortable as my work shoe Crocs, but it is as comfortable as a heel can get. The height is just right and the front platform gives it a lift without arching my heels too much.
  • Peep toe: Definitely peep toe period!
  • Bling-a-jing: A little subtle bling which is just right.
  • Versatile: It can go anywhere and I can easily match it with my other outfits after wedding!
  • Affordable: I personally don’t see much value in spending three thousands dollar for a pair of shoe as I rather spend it on a bag or a good holiday! Haha. Reason? I don’t have much opportunity to wear expensive shoes and it will probably gather dusts and starts disintegrating before I wear them more than ten times. Also, I’m not a careful shoe wearer! I stick them in mud, stomp around in puddles and even rub them against walls, stairs or each other! This pair of heels costs slightly below a hundred and it’s all good!

We ( I am using the term we even though he may not agree with all of my ideas, but now that we are one entity, we got to use WE. HAH) always wanted to give out wedding favor even for our church wedding as we wanted it to be a small, cosy wedding, just for our closest friends and families!

We toyed with many ideas, like starting kits for plant, tea leaves/flowers, plant seeds and many other vintage or eco chic ideas which will go with our whimsical vintage theme! But when we know that Armenian Church do not allow fresh flower petals, artificial flower petals, confetti or any other thing which leaves a mess, I thought of bubbles! Bubbles do not leave any mess but of course I didn’t tell the coordinator that all or most of my guests will be blowing bubbles at the same time!

J & S

I first saw this ice cream bubble blower when Steph use it for her photo shoot, then I saw it a supermarket and that’s that! I bought 120 bubble blowers and it costs $2.90 for two. It is available in the bigger FairPrice stores. I added a bit of personalization with an off white paper with a stamp of a “Just Married” beetle and printed “Thank You” on the tag. Finally finish it off with a twine around the bubble blower!

It created a magical effect and you probably saw it in the video! Haha.

// Ok fine, it is not exactly DIY, I only made the tag. HAHA. I don’t care.

We picked Hwee Studios as our wedding videographer and selected his 6 hrs videography package! We only choose to film the most beautiful and critical parts – gate crashing and church wedding – for our 6 hrs!

Jason & Serene Wedding Express

Realized the video cannot be shown in iPhone so here is the link to Youtube.

Here are our criteria for picking our wedding videographer

  • Limited budget so it cannot exceed $1500 (which was a fairly reasonable budget)
  • Nothing cheesy as I have seen wedding videos which focus on the bridal car’s car plate number and even added in the 4D form for special effects. OMG.
  • Videographer who doesn’t make us shout “HUAT” or do overly “Auspicious” actions. It’s a wedding not chinese new year!
  • Friendly videographer who doesn’t give black face or demand people to stand in a certain way (you will be surprised! I met such videographer before!)
  • Basically someone who takes a backdrop role – non intrusive and show the event as it is sincerely
  • Someone who is talented and is able to make us go awww with his video

With these criteria, we found Hwee Studios, even though some of the forum remarks indicated that he is late in giving his couple’s the full 6 hrs DVD at the end of the wedding, dragging for months, we are keeping our fingers crossed. Ben, the videographer is relatively friendly and the past work we saw was good and for some we did go awww. So we took a leap of faith.

It turned out well and even though we have not received our full 6 hrs DVD, we are still keeping our fingers crossed! Haha.

My sister tagged me on this picture right after we got married but I only managed to update it today! Haha!

One constraint we had with Armenian church is that they do not have any screen or projector! It is a monument site and everything is basic. So a program sheet is essential for our guests! Another constraint of Armenian church is that, they do not have any air conditioning system with only ceiling fans in a hot Saturday afternoon, we thought a program fan will come in handy!
