All Things Pretty

I was at Franc Franc’s soft opening fair at Vivocity atrium which starts from now till 24 April.

It was a little disappointing as I was expecting a much bigger fair than this. The range was pretty limited but I did spot a couple of lovelies which I painfully resisted! I’m going to wait for their flagship store to open on 1 June at Vivocity before making any purchase! Just to see their complete range.

The good news! Price remains affordable and within reach and is priced a few dollars higher to their Japanese counterparts. There are items going below $10 and I spotted many lovely things ranging between $20-$50. They are slightly overpriced but it is within reach for most people who are willing to pay a bit more for their designs. I personally won’t want it to be priced too low that it became a second Ikea where every household has one of their “unique” piece, which is easily identified and no longer special.

We finally had the time to put up our favourite paintings, poster and deer head! It looks lovely! 3M rocks by the way!

My “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster is finally here! It is shipped all the way from England from the book store who first discovered this poster and made it public! I love that the poster is affordable and printed on a nice vintage feel paper! People at Barter Books is efficient and wrapped my poster with great care! I love it that they even included a writeup on the history of the poster. I have sealed it up and put it at the back of the frame! I hope the history of the poster can be shared with all my friends and family who visit the next time!

Last Sunday afternoon after a rainy morning, we spotted three snails crawling around the edge of our sky garden. Trying to play God, I pluck them out from their various paths and out them together. Thinking back, maybe the snails are trying to get away from one another but unfortunately they met again.

Sometimes when we try with all our might to escape from someone/something, God does that to play a prank (in a form of life lessons) on us too! Heh.

I spotted this short film at Interiors Porn (who first saw it at Laughing Squid) and gosh, I love it! We saw this poster so often but we never knew the history of it! Now that I know the history, I’m grabbing a Facsimile copy from here!

British artist Joe Hill who specialises in portraits and 3D pavement street art is in town! His work can be seen in Bugis Junction and I can’t wait to see it myself!

I love looking at flowers and I passed by a new florist at Eastpoint (second floor, who moved 3 months ago from Bedok) yesterday and picked up a stalk! I’m glad I found this florist BeauCreations in Simei as they are much cheaper compared to the florist at basement! So Simei peeps, if you need flowers to cheer up your place for a party, you know where to get them!

I came across this little DIY project from Apartment Therapy! If only I’ve not bought those random accessories for my Christmas tree, I would have try this out too! Have fun!

Remember I put up a post about a painting we bought at Piazza Navona in Rome? We finally got it stretched! Instead of going to JB which we thought is a hassle to save $20 – $30, I brought it to Sino Trading & Frame Works at Clementi! It costs $73 (after asking for a discount from $75) to stretch the canvas which was 24 inches by 34 inches! Not a bad deal I say. Skillful old masters do the framing and stretching at the store instead of sending them to a factory. They are also helpful and attentive to our requests. The material they used looks strong and of good quality! Total cost of this painting $243!

Awaiting to hang on the wall

And about our painting, I love the red poppies in the foreground, the little house on the hill and the great blue sky! It is a view of Tuscany in Summer / Spring and it is beautiful! Different from most of the paintings found at Piazza Navona, it is less of a country style. Instead, it looks modern with the use of vibrant and striking colors! Most importantly this painting makes me happy while looking at it! I once went to an art exhibition and an art collector gave a talk on how collectors should buy a painting because they love looking at it, instead of its “collectible value” which makes them think “ah, what an ugly painting but I can surely make some money out of it in a few years” and I totally agree with him.

We bought this more than a year ago during the Tokyo Proposal Trip and I’m glad we can finally let it see some lights! I know my posts are getting random but these are all the random things I took with my iPhone over the two weeks I’m away! There are more random posts to come!
