Count Our Blessings

Some of you must be curious how my photography session turns out? A piece of advice for all brides to be – Stay calm in all unfortunate events (which I didn’t) because accordingly to Murphy’s Law, what will go wrong will go wrong. It taught us to relax even when all plans failed.

Before we head out, we said a little prayer…

“Dear Lord, please bless us with lots of grace, blessing and joy during this shoot and bless us with good weather too!”

A series of unfortunate events began when…

… He had to spend 45 minutes looking for a parking space away from the bridal studio (partly because the parking rate in town is outrageous and secondly we had two vehicles with us). 45 minutes late was a bad start but what was worst was when he came to realize that he left his white shirt at home. While I proceeded to have my makeup done, he went back to the East to get his shirt.

While I was putting on makeup, all was well until I accidentally cut my leg against the sharp edges of the dressing table. I didn’t realize until blood started dripping all over. The worst has yet to come, after putting on my makeup I realized that I am having my period! OMG, a week earlier! Yes. You think that is bad enough for the day? Hang in there…

Then I put on the wedding gown and headed out for the shoot. On the way, I realized that we didn’t bring the other three gowns along! AHHHH. Yes, the makeup artist left my gown in the waiting area but the photographer’s assistant forgot it. Trying to remind calm, we carried on with the first location and got my gowns afterwards.

After picking up my gowns and on the way to our second location, we lost the second car on a split road. The first reaction is to call my sister but only to realize that both Jason’s and my phone were with my sister in the other car. HAH. Bad decision there.

We borrowed the photographer’s phone and called my own phone (because I cannot remember my sister’s number and Jason’s friend’s number is a Malaysian number) to get to my sister. At this point, we found out that the Vintage Blue Beetle which his friend – Robert (actual name Alvin) – drove all the way in from Malaysia broke down mid way, even before we had a chance to take photo with it. Yes, what in the world is happening? In the end, we couldn’t use the car in our photoshoot and decided to abandon our last location.

In my mind, I was thinking, “Heck, it. Let’s just enjoy the shoot at our second location.”

We called the tow car service to go save my sister and Robert while we enjoyed the rest of our photoshoot. The unfortunate events stopped at my end but continued at my sister’s end which I shall not share too much.

At the end of the day, with our tired body, we headed for Korean BBQ and started laughing at how this day went.

While counting the unfortunate events that happened, we also counted our blessings. Throughout the day, we realized that I am glad I had my sister around during the day! I would have been overly stressed up with these events if not for her! Secondly, I am glad my sister remembered my phone password which I casually mentioned to her when she is trying to take photo of my using my phone (Her memory is amazing). This became useful later because we left my phone with her and I cannot remember her number and had to call my own number. Thirdly, the weather was good! Sunny and a little cloudy! Praise the Lord. Fourthly, the pictures turned out well (at least through looking at the camera’s viewer) and lastly, we had a lot of fun in the end!

The lesson learnt? Learn to count your blessings too!

Thank you Lord for putting us through this nerve-racking test while placing angels around to help us along! Thank you Sister for all the help yesterday, even though you were rather relunctant to help but your presence was a blessing to us! Thank you Robert for all the hard work! The 9 hours drive! Even though we didn’t use your car in our photoshoot, I’m sure your little beetle will do well during the actual day!
