Already known to my loyal SbR readers, I’ve bought an apartment somewhere in the east. After our hefty purchase, a kind future resident (administrator) set up a forum for the rest to share our ideas and excitement for our future loft.
However, on a sunny day (I made this up), the administrator received a not-too-friendly email from one of angsty future resident (who cc-ed this to the developer). It was long and unfriendly. The worst thing is this. He sent the email using his company email account and was literally tracked down with photos and name on his company website.
Once again, another good example depicting the power of the internet world – With great power comes great responsibility (Sorry, I can’t control the urge to add this overused cliché. HAHA). He must be really stressed up at work. I gave up after reading the second paragraph. *Yawn*
Dear (name of administrator),
Before I make any comments below, I have to make my stand clear – I am not representing (name of developer) and I hope that I do not sound too offensive and rude to you in this email, because all I want is to make everyone understand that there is a need to be gracious, accommodating and understanding in this affluent Singapore society.
First and foremost, all the people in the CC list may be the future residents of (name of my loft), but not everyone share the same concerns as you and some of us are not even bothered by the questions that you raised below.
(name of developer) is a SGX-listed company with a long history, so may I kindly request that you place more faith and patience in our property developer and trust that they will do a good job?
Before you purchase a unit in (name of my loft!), you should already been well aware who is the developer, and understand that there are certain things which comes with a DBSS unit that are not within our control as homeowners. Please exercise more patience when (name of developer…) replied that they will disseminate the floor plan in later stage, which does not necessarily mean that a response should be expected within two months. There are still tons of things not yet done and dusted before the completion of the flats, and it does not really matter if we receive the floor plan right now, or a few months before we receive the keys.
We do not always get the things we want in life; we do not always have a say in whatever we want. Does government ever ask what we want, except when the election date draws near, or in rare circumstances a feedback or poll is drawn up by them to reflect our eternal unhappiness at the continual price hikes? From a sociological perspective, a poll does not represent anything substantial. A poll may represent desires, cravings, or even for the fun of it, but it does not translate into a true reflection of the real situation in how things work.
I believe you understand how most companies work. They have to meet with several constraints, coming up with a tender for those interested aircon contractors, and weigh their own options. Life does not all boil down to personal preferences.
Whatever (freaking lengthy email, and yes name of developer is here) comes up with eventually, we should respect their decision and believe that it is made with the consideration of both parties’ interests.
By the way, may I suggest that you are buying into the hype of advertisements and pop culture, and sinking deeper into consumerism?
Occasionally, we should take a step back and look beyond the face value. Mitsubishi necessarily better than Daikin (similar inverter technology) and Carrier? It’s open to debate, but try exposing yourself to a decade of Carrier advertisement everyday and see if your opinion will be swayed at the end of the day.
Informing a company to preferably choose an aircon unit with a four tick rating, is like getting its CEO to go down to Best Denki to shop for the best aircon and order in bulk quantity. As I have mentioned earlier before, how an enterprise works is different from an individual in daily life. Even the chances of choosing and buying the biggest, cheapest, freshest preferred white (over black or grey) pomfret in the market is extremely slim, subject to the catch on that day. If we can afford to pay for electronic gadgets, shop at boutiques or fine-dining once in a while, I do not see how we are unable to fork out the difference of the amount of electricity a two-tick or four-tick rating aircon consumes. Come to think of it, how many percentage of us Singaporeans make the effort to save water, turn off electricity when not in use, and take part in recycling, cleaning up of beaches?
And in short (this is not freaking short), we are still paying for a HDB flat at the end of the day. Sure, it costs more than a regular HDB flat given the same size, but we are paying for better designs, and with some interior furnishing pre-fabricated for our convenience. We may have the thought of making our money’s worth, but at the end of the day, let’s face it, we are staying neither in a bungalow nor a condominium. When it comes to the security of the building, if you would really wish for it, you may wish to purchase the condominium currently under construction near the train station. For (another development’s name), the scenario is a bit more different as there are more residents staying under a tall block of units, whereas ours is like a homely place of just 11 storeys and just besides the private housing, and hence it is relatively less complicated, security-wise. May I also suggest that (another development’s name) costs much more than (my loft’s name, my poor loft kana despites)oft’s name) ?
How about devoting more attention and fantastical fantasy ideas on the interior furnishing instead? By then you can tweak your design a bit to accommodate the aircon points, the size of the airconditioning and maybe can go into full-swing planning once the floor plan is up for our information. This will be more pragmatic and appropriate for the time being. Don’t fret, be patient and practice more common sense, and you will be like a gracious Phua Chu Kang living happily everyday.
I hope you will take my words in good faith(HAHA. JOKER) and not deeming me as a circling vulture picking on you. (BLAH BLAH BLAH)
Best Regards,
A happy (I can foresee that) future Parc Lumiere resident
