Gone to a Canadian family’s home today! It’s a nice little cozy house with 2 little children and 1 baby! Kari, who is a Canadian we knew from Every Nation Church, invited Chelsea and I to her place! Her husband who is a pastor from the church went to North Carolina for work and thus we were invited to her home to keep her company too! We had nice dinner where she served us with butter garlic carrots, mashed potatoes and roasted chicken. After dinner, we had home-baked cookies and apple strudels with tea for desserts! It’s a very nice and young Christian family. The kids were very polite and well behaved and at the same time very active too. It’s nice seeing Kari encouraging and praising her children at every little thing they do unlike parents in an Asian family.
Her elder daughter, Emily who is 6, was very independent and a good mummy’s assistant! She went to their backyard to pick some flowers for the dinning table! She even did some colourings and presented to us as a gift after dinner! How sweet!
Her second child, a boy Kalen who is 3, was very shy. From one of the picture, you can see how much he’s into hockey! Hockey is very much a Canadian culture, where every little boy dreams to be in the hockey team! Kalen often asked politely if he can pour himself a cup of water or juice, or spread the butter on the bun himself without the help of Kari. An independent child indeed compared to our pampered little prince and princess back home.
Emily is home-schooled. Thus Kari plays an important role in the children’s life; she’s not only their mother, but also their teacher. Kari choose to home-school the children and to become a full time mother because she wants her children to learn biblical knowledge besides the usual curriculums in schools. She reads the bible to her children every morning and we held hands and said a prayer before our dinner. You can really tell the differences between kids who are brought up in a Christian family and those who are not. These children were so well-loved and obedient [because they love and respect their parents so much and not out of obligations or fears like kids in Singapore].
Looking at this loving family whose daily life is focused in God definitely makes me ponder on how my own family would be like in the future. If I’m a full time mother, I would want to read the bible to my little children very morning too.
